Brookhaven Technical Rescue Task Force Team Manager and Selden Fire Chief Bill Xikis was born in Manhattan, New York in 1966. Bill lived in Queens NY until February 1971 when he moved to Selden, Long Island. Bill is a graduate of Newfield High School (1984) and graduated State University Farmingdale, New York with an Associate in Applied Science in 1986. He also received a Bachelor of Science from Dowling College in Oakdale, New York in 1989.

WORK HISTORY

4/94 to Present Suffolk County Sheriff's Department, Riverhead, N.Y.
Correction Officer I
Responsible for care and custody and control of inmates in assigned areas. I have worked in Riverhead at both the maximum and medium security facilities, Yaphank at the minimum-security facility, Central Suffolk Hospital, and Kings Park Psychiatric Center. Duties include key control, security and tier inspections, report writing and maintenance of a logbook. I have worked with inmates in visiting, yard, corridors and housing areas, including general population, protective custody, administrative, and punitive segregation. I was assigned to B-crew, Riverhead for 6 years. I am currently assigned to the Rehabilitation unit on C-crew in Riverhead.

Sheriff's Emergency Response Team
Duties include riot control, cell extrication, security details and other special ops. Training includes specialized tools and equipment, chemical agents, baton, tactical rappelling, and defensive tactics. Provide instruction to team members on forcible entry, hydraulic rescue tools, cutting torches, and rappelling techniques and equipment

Responsible for overseeing airport operations which includes: dispatching emergency vehicles as necessary, aircraft rescue, structural firefighting, aircraft crash recovery, security, area inspection and maintaining log of all departing and arriving aircrafts. Training Part 135 pilots in fire extinguishers and fire extinguisher operations as per Federal Aviation Administration requirements (this included live burning evolutions).

In charge of all Department personnel, divisions, groups and organizations bearing the Selden FD seal. Direct and delegate duties to the Assistant Chiefs, Captains, Lieutenants, and Committee Chairpersons. Responsible for working directly with the Board of Fire Commissioners to allocate portions of the 4 million dollar budget for purchase of equipment and supplies and construction projects related to fire department operations.

1/03 to present Team Manager - Technical Rescue Team
Responsible for managing team members during a technical rescue operations and assigning tasks to members to complete a rescue. To work with other team managers of the task force when the task force is operating at a rescue scene. Report directly to the Team Leader of the Task Force. Responsible for all equipment and tool inventory, ordering of equipment and gear and all training.

1/03 to 1/05 1st Assistant Chief (Chief of Equipment)
Maintain current inventory of all equipment and vehicles operated by the department. Submit requests for new or replacement equipment. Prepare specifications for the ordering of new or refurbished equipment. Check arriving orders for inventory and control purposes. In charge of all aspects of the technical rescue teams, including training. Currently assigned as the Team Manager.

1/01 to 1/03 2nd Assistant Chief (Chief of Training)
Assume a command position at any emergency scene and direct personnel to complete tasks necessary to gain control of a hazardous situation or medical emergency. I oversee all aspects of training including new members and technical rescue, and submit training seminar request to the Board of Fire Commissioners. I am also in charge of the new member screening process.

1/98 to 1/01 3rd Assistant Chief (Chief of Personnel)
Assume a command position at any emergency scene and direct personnel to complete tasks necessary to gain control of a hazardous situation or medical emergency. I oversaw various committees including, merit awards, screening new applicants, Fire Prevention, and calculating member activity percentages. I also was responsible for submitting a monthly report from the Chiefs office to the Board of Fire Commissioners for requests for equipment, attendance at seminars and monthly response statistics. Other duties included assisting the Chief of Training, insurance and insurance claims, and vehicle and equipment specifications.

Responsible for all company members, and their actions at or during alarms or department functions.
